Amur leopards: Heading back to Russia
04/07/2013
Twycross Zoo has supported Wildlife Vets International for a number of years and the money that Twycross Zoo provides goes towards the veterinary support scheme for Amur leopards. WVI vet John Lewis gives the first in a series of conservation talks at Twycross Zoo tonight. The evening will focus on the plight of the Amur leopard, how Twycross Zoo supports Wildlife Vets International and will include presentations from special guest, Dr John Lewis and Twycross keepers.

for Amur leopards, from which Amur leopards will be chosen according to their genetics, physical and mental health, to be the first phase of the reintroduction programme.
Chosen leopards from captive populations across the world (managed by a Global Species Managed Programme) will head out to the Russian Far East to a specially designed centre, where they will breed and produce cubs that will be released into the wild - should the reintroduction plan go to plan!
Like all good zoos, Twycross Zoo not only looks after the animals in their collections to the best of their ability, but they use them as ambassadors to help their counterparts in the wild.
Awareness and fund raising are as an important part of the reintroduction plan as the animals and their habitat. Please support talks such as these hosted by Twycross Zoo
