Fancy working with chimps?

The Sanctuary

Located 30 minues from Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone in West Africa, the Taqcugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates confiscated pets and orphaned or abandoned wild chimps. It also plays a vital role in the conservation of chimpanzees in the wild through education, communication and legal enforcement.

The Person

Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary is looking for a veterinary assistant to support the Animal Health and Welfare Manager (the resident vet).

They are looking for someone who is fluent in English, hasa recognised universtiy degree in veterinary medicine and has a minimum of one year experience working with wildilfe. Preferably they would have experience with primates and can demonstrate some experience in clinical parameters, basic anaesthesia, basic pathology and sampling.

The Job

As well as coordinating the care staff, organising enrichment, ensureing the enclosures are fit for purpose, overseeing diets etc you will be responsible for daily health monitoring and carrying out routine health checks and implementing disease prevention and emergency medical care.

You will take an active part in furthering the research and conservation work that Tacugama is involved in.
